Middle East Justice Appeal supports Jerusalem Princess Basma Centre

The Jerusalem Princess Basma Centre has thanked the Methodist people for their part in a donation of almost £5,000 from the Middle East Justice Appeal. The money has been put to immediate use during the current crisis in Gaza.

Violette Mubarak, General Director at the Jerusalem Princess Basma Centre, commented, “Within so much devastation, we endeavour to rebuild, restore, and always seek opportunities to renew hope. We are grateful for the encouragement and support of all our international friends.”

The appeal is an initiative between All We Can, the Methodist Church in Britain and the United Reformed Church. The original appeal was launched in November 2024 to help meet the humanitarian need resulting from the crisis in Gaza and Lebanon specifically. The appeal was relaunched earlier this year to support Palestinians targeted by Israeli settler violence in the West Bank.

David Hardman, Methodist Liaison Officer in Jerusalem, commented, “Princess Basma is a long-standing partner of the Methodist Liaison Office and works with children and young people with disabilities across the West Bank, from their base on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem. The love and support that is offered to the children goes far beyond medical care.

“Princess Basma has had a team working in Gaza since 7 October 2023, with children who have life-changing injuries due to the ongoing bombing. We support their work through our Middle East Justice Appeal as we believe it vitally important for the children suffering because of Israel’s bombardment of Gaza, and know that Princess Basma offer the best care in the most difficult circumstances.”

The Jerusalem Princess Basma Centre is located on Jerusalem’s Mount of Olives and gives Palestinian children with disabilities access to quality health and rehabilitation services and inclusive education, offering them hope and opportunities. The Centre has been serving children since 1964 and works for the integration and empowerment of children with disabilities.

At the paediatric rehabilitation unit at Al Ahli Hospital in Gaza City, a team of nine continue to provide services to children with post-acute injuries and chronic conditions. So far this year, more than 80 children have been treated each week.
