Responding to Fuel Poverty

As the cost of living crisis deepens and energy prices skyrocket many churches and circuits will want to respond in their communities. Becoming a ‘warm space’ is one such way. Opening up heated church rooms for those people who are struggling to afford to heat their homes this winter is a very practical way of helping.

Through the Churchworks Commission the Methodist Church is supporting the Warm Welcome initiative. You can register at warmwelcome.uk and they will provide practical advice and resources to assist churches to set up and run a warm, free and friendly welcome in your church building.

We are looking at ways in which support can be offered through the connexion to churches who sign up to the Warm Welcome initiative. As soon as we have any details we will share them here.

As well as practical support the Methodist Church, through the Joint Public Issues Team, has been instrumental in building a coalition of over 55 faith groups and anti-poverty charities who have challenged the government on its response to this crisis. The coalition will be pressing the new Prime Minister for a targeted response so that all have #enoughtolive.
