Running a book scheme for transferring ministers
Each year supernumeraries and others who are looking for new homes for their books have offered them for transferring ministers who often begin their ministry in the British Methodist Church with very few books or resources. When there are only a few, this has been managed by putting the donor and recipient in touch and letting them make their own arrangements. However, last year there were more books offered than could be managed in this way.
We would therefore like to set up a scheme where books can be stored/shelved each year in a central location, and ministers needing them can come and collect what they want. This would also be open to circuit stewards who are preparing manses for new transferring ministers to collect books for them before their arrival.
We need:
- Space in a church located fairly centrally in the country with parking, where books can be stored, preferably without cost. Some funds could be found for shelving if needed.
- A volunteer who would like to manage the scheme : receive donated books, shelve and list them, liaise with those needing them and arrange for collection.
Mostly this work will be focused in the summer months.
