Bible Studies
We hope you find our 'Word in Time' Bible studies support you in recognising God in Scripture, and the world around you.
Each week’s studies are written by volunteers across the Connexion (you can read the author’s biography after each study). They follow the lectionary of the Methodist Prayer Handbook. You may additionally be interested in our Prayer of the Day, also from the Methodist Prayer Handbook.
If you would like to write for A Word in Time, please email wit@methodistchurch.org.uk
The Methodist Church welcomes your comments but requests they are on topic and respectful. You can see the Church's guidelines for commenting here.
This week's theme: Vision and Promise
"My sheep hear my voice. I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one will snatch them out of my hand." (vs 27-28)
Now concerning virgins, I have no command of the Lord, but I give my opinion as one who by the Lord’s mercy is trustworthy. I think that, in view of the impending crisis, it is well for you to remain as you are. (vs 25-26)
Now concerning food sacrificed to idols: we know that 'all of us possess knowledge.' Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up. (v. 1)
Then they prayed and said, "Lord, you know everyone’s heart. Show us which one of these two you have chosen." (v. 24)
But take care that this liberty of yours does not somehow become a stumbling block to the weak. (v. 9)
I do it all for the sake of the gospel, so that I may share in its blessings. (v. 23)
Therefore, my dear friends, flee from the worship of idols. (v. 14)
"I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another." (v. 34)
For when the time comes to eat, each of you goes ahead with your own supper, and one goes hungry and another becomes drunk. (v. 21)
Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord... To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. (vs 4, 5, 7)
For in the one Spirit we were all baptised into one body – Jews or Greeks, slaves or free – and we were all made to drink of one Spirit. (v. 13)
Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it. (v. 27)
