"If the world hates you, be aware that it hated me before it hated you." (v. 18)

"When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who comes from the Father, he will testify on my behalf. You also are to testify because you have been with me from the beginning." (vs 26-27)

Then Jesus told his disciples, "If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me." (v. 24)

In this you rejoice, even if now for a little while you have had to suffer various trials, so that the genuineness of your faith – being more precious than gold that, though perishable, is tested by fire – may be found to result in praise and glory and honour when Jesus Christ is revealed. (vs 6-7)

You have been born anew, not of perishable but of imperishable seed, through the living and enduring word of God. (v. 23)

Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. (v. 10)

Beloved, I urge you as aliens and exiles to abstain from the desires of the flesh that wage war against the soul. (v. 11)

For you were going astray like sheep, but now you have returned to the shepherd and guardian of your souls. (v. 25)

Finally, all of you, have unity of spirit, sympathy, love for one another, a tender heart, and a humble mind. Do not repay evil for evil or abuse for abuse; but, on the contrary, repay with a blessing. (vs 8-9)

"If another member of the church sins against you, go and point out the fault when the two of you are alone." (v. 15)

Now who will harm you if you are eager to do what is good? (v. 13)

They are surprised that you no longer join them in the same excesses of dissipation. (v. 4)
