Bible Book:
2 Peter

Therefore I intend to keep on reminding you of these things, though you know them already and are established in the truth that has come to you. (v. 12)

2 Peter 1:12-15 Monday 14 September 2026

Psalm 119:105-112

Background
The second letter of Peter is written to those who received the teaching by the apostles (sent by Jesus) in the Christian faith (having trust in God and belief in Jesus). Peter is warning his readers against false teachers who are anti-authority and who deny Jesus is Lord, and who have already disrupted other Christian groups. In chapter 1, Peter pointed out that as well as faith, there were other qualities that a Christian should have: goodness, knowledge, self-control, endurance, godliness, mutual affection and love (see 2 Peter 1: 5-11).

In today’s Bible passage, Peter said that he will keep on reminding them of these qualities. It is interpreted that Peter is in old age, shortly before his death (verse 14), and after he has died, he wants them to remember all that he has taught them. After the warning and the reminder that he gave them in chapter 1, he prepared them for the opposition that they will face. If they remember their calling (the time when they felt called to be Christians, followers of Jesus), and what it means to be a Christian, they will be empowered to face what is to come. Peter will keep reminding them so they will remember at the time when it is needed.

To Ponder:

  • What do you think helps you when you are faced with opposition in your daily life?
  • What or who do you turn to for support when you need it?
  • Is there a person, or a quote from someone that you can recall that helps you?

Prayer
Lord, you know what I need before I ask you. I pray that in my times of difficulty that you will help me to reach out for the support I need. In times of opposition to my faith, give me strength to persevere and your presence to surround me. Amen.
