Bible Book:
Revelation

"You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honour and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created." (v. 11)

Revelation 4:1-11 Saturday 6 June 2026

Psalm 150

Background
The book of Revelation records the vision received by John of Patmos.

As in the passage we read from Isaiah on Wednesday (6:1-8) we are granted a glimpse into the worship life of the court of God’s heavenly kingdom (see also Ezekiel 1). It seems as though John is summoned to the court – “come up here” (v. 1). We have a description of heaven, rich in ornate stones and an emerald rainbow. (Is this God’s reminder to himself of the covenant he made with the earth? See Genesis 9:13-17.) There is a crystal sea and seven torches, the four living creatures and next to the throne, 24 elders. There is here a resonance with many images in the Hebrew scriptures and John must have made all those connections as well as being in awe of the majesty and might of God.

What did John see, beyond what is described? Was it that within all that he knew, all that he experienced and understood was God – the one supreme being? One who not only created all things but now presides over all things in splendour. And the response from us all, the only response there can be – is to worship.

To Ponder:

  • I invite you to reflect on the word 'worthy'. Speak the word in your mind. What does it mean for you to know that God is worthy to receive glory, honour and power?
  • What does it mean for you to know that you are loved and cherished by such an awesome creator God?

Prayer
Holy, holy, holy Lord, God Almighty. You are worthy of all praise. I bow before you in worship and with all your saints proclaim your glory. Amen.
