If we are to be people who speak of God, we must be people who live our lives built on God.
Prayer is more than making requests to God; it is the source of our life in God.
Being rooted in God through prayer gives us confidence and spiritual openness that we need for evangelism.
As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, continue to walk in him, rooted and built up in him...
Ideas for evangelistic prayer in services and groups
- Invite people to secretly write down what they fear most about evangelism. Collect the papers in and put them in an envelope with ‘Our fears’ on it. Put the envelope at the bottom of a cross and pray that God might turn our fears into courage.
- During a service, break into small groups and read one of the Bible passages below together a few times. Discuss what God might be saying to you through this passage. Passages that might prove helpful in evangelism include Galatians 5:22–26, Mark 4:3–9, John 15:1–5, Luke 10:1–3, Genesis 1:28–31a, Revelation 21:1–2, 22:1–3.
- Create a prayer wall or prayer tree where people can add sticky notes or leaves to represent the people they’re praying for. Keep things anonymous using first names only, initials, or drawings to represent people.
