The Methodist Ecumenical Office Rome (MEOR) is a resource for the global Methodist family and helps to facilitate Methodist relationships with the wider ecumenical community. It is supported by the Methodist Church in Britain and other worldwide Methodist partners. The Revd Matthew A. Laferty is its Director; he is missionary of the United Methodist Church.
The Revd Matthew Laferty represents Methodist interest in and development of relationships with other churches in Rome. He attends the European Methodist Council and is a member of the British Methodist-Roman Catholic dialogue.
The Methodist Ecumenical Office Rome is a presence for the World Methodist Council:
- to be a channel of dialogue with other churches in the search for a deeper unity
- to foster relationships with other agencies and faith communities in order to promote better understanding and joint action for justice and peace
- to offer a ministry of prayer and prayer and reflection, of learning and growth
- to be a place of open hospitality to Methodists and all visitors to Rome.
