The Methodist Church in Britain was pleased to see the Joint statement from the leaders of the United Kingdom, France and Canada on the situation in Gaza and the West Bank - GOV.UK yesterday (19 May). However, as we heard Tom Fletcher, UN Under-Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs, speaking on BBC Radio 4 this morning, our hearts became heavier.

Our partners in Gaza who have so faithfully worked to bring relief, medical aid and hope to their fellow Gazans feel abandoned and exhausted. To quote a volunteer from the DSPR programme, “Yesterday and until now we haven't eaten anything. We are still starving and in pain. We only drank water and our stomachs are empty.”

As a Church, we continue to offer our support through our joint Gaza/Lebanon justice appeal.

Tomorrow (21 May) we will be joining with others across the globe in a grassroots organised #fastforgaza, an invitation to join a worldwide fast in whatever way is meaningful, please share the #fastforgaza tag and post on May 21 what #fastforgaza means to you.
