Simon Sorokos

The Management Committee were saddened to hear of the death of our former colleague Simon Sokoros who served on the Committee between 2018 and 2022. Before that, he was lead organiser, with Sarah Middleton and the Revd. Paul Glass, of the 2017 exhibition ‘Picturing Faith’ at the Beaney Art Gallery in Canterbury. As a teacher he brought us vision and expertise for engaging educational institutions more fully with the Collection.

The Methodist Modern Art Collection launches on Art UK

The Methodist Modern Art Collection will be available on the Art UK website, it can be browsed, tagged and digitally curated alongside 300,000 other artworks that feature on the website.

The launch of the collection on Art UK coincides with the first day of Methodist Conference 2024 at Royal Armouries Museum and New Dock Hall, Leeds.

Having the collection on Art UK brings the artworks to a wider digital audience and further utilises this world class collection of Christian art as a resource to prompt spiritual reflection and conversation.

To mark the launch, the Methodist Modern Art Collection committee have invited Professor Ben Quash (Professor of Christianity and the Arts at Kings College London) to curate a selection of works. Under the title ‘Hand to Hand’ – Prof. Quash encourages us to reflect on how focusing on the hands of Jesus Christ can guide our looking at the collection.
