Discipleship Today

Focuses on what it means to follow Jesus ‘on the way’ in a post-Christendom world.

Faith Adventures

Invites participants to experience mini-adventures as a way of encountering God and reflecting on discipleship.

Methodist Framework

Draws on a Methodist Way of Life to help frame the content and deepen understanding of Christian living.

Reflective Practice

Builds in intentional space for journalling, helping embed faith habits from the start. The booklet is creatively designed with beautiful double-page spreads that encourage individual exploration and discovery, while connecting personal growth to community.

Biblical Encounters

Places a strong emphasis on Bible stories that invite real encounter with the living Jesus. Encourages Spirit-led tangents, offering links to further resources and optional content for deeper discovery.

Pathway to Membership

Equips participants for becoming members of the Methodist Church as part of their ongoing, life-long discipleship journey.

Curious Exploration

Encourages questions and exploration, rather than simply offering instruction on what to believe. It uses a conversational tone and snapshot content to spark reflection and group discussion.

Welcoming Diversity

Is open about the variety of viewpoints held within the church and wider Christian tradition.

Participant version

  • God is pure love. In the graphics and videos, we use a big heart to represent God.
  • God's Spirit is everywhere in the world—God is nearby.
  • You have a spirit and a soul, and these can be in close relationship with God's Spirit.
  • Your body is good. Spiritual practices aren't just about your head and heart—your body is involved too. Some of the practices include very physical things like food, drink, and nature.
  • God loves it when we take adventures and step out. God is up for an adventure! Throughout this course, we use the metaphor (or parable) of a train journey. Travelling by train takes us to new places, we journey with others, and—importantly—we don’t get to drive.
  • As we say yes to God and open ourselves up, we can expect many gentle but rich changes in our lives.
  • While this is a twelve-session course, it's really an introduction to a whole way of life. You might not want to get off the train!
  • This is an ancient path, thoroughly tried and tested over 2,000 years and across all cultures. Many, many people have taken this journey before.
  • It’s good to have a beginner’s mind. You’ve probably done some or all of these practices before—but come with a clean slate.
  • Try to tune out any voices in your head that seek to undermine the joy and excitement of the journey. Sadly, it seems that whenever people embark on a journey of spiritual change, there’s often resistance—sometimes from others, often from within ourselves.
  • Expect surprises. God is good, and you can trust God.
