Each session follows a similar rhythm. Timings are flexible and can be adjusted to suit your group, energy levels and context.

Story sharing (20–40 minutes)

Begin by creating space for participants to reconnect with one another.

  • Play the opening video for the session here.
  • Introduce the theme of the session, using the first page of the relevant section in the journal as your guide.
  • Offer a brief reminder of last week’s mini‑adventures.

Invite reflection with questions such as:

  • What did you notice?
  • What surprised you?
  • What did you write or record in your journal?

Allow time for everyone who wants to share, while making it clear that passing is always okay. Listening well is as important as speaking.

As a way of marking and celebrating what has been shared, invite the group to punch a hole in the contents page of their journals, representing another stage on the journey together.

Bible (15–35 minutes)

  • Read the Bible passage aloud, or use the session video if available.
  • Use the questions in the journal to guide conversation, allowing discussion to flow naturally rather than trying to cover every question.

Encourage participants to notice what stands out to them, rather than aiming to reach a single “right answer”.

Big idea (15–35 minutes)

  • Look together at the sketchnote in the journal.
  • Introduce the idea that the quotes included are drawn from the Methodist Reception into Membership and Baptism services in the Methodist Worship Book.
  • Through On The Way, participants are given space to explore and unpack what these words and commitments can mean in everyday life.

Use the questions in the journal to open up discussion.

Each session webpage will also include additional material for those who wish to go deeper into these ideas.

Prayer (around 5 minutes)

  • Use the prayer provided, or
  • Invite participants to offer simple, spontaneous prayers if that feels appropriate for the group.

Silence is also a valid and prayerful option.

Wrap‑up (around 5 minutes)

  • Play the closing video for the session.
  • Introduce the next set of mini‑adventures.
  • Confirm the time and place of the next session.
  • Close with a word of thanks for what has been shared
