The Methodist Church has a Fund which may be able to help. Grants are available to help with specific needs from the Necessitous Local Preachers’ Fund.

Examples of situations where a contribution may be available:

  • Essential car repairs to enable a Local Preacher to fulfil their preaching obligations.
  • Heating costs not covered by other benefits.
  • Certain living adaptations to enable a Local Preacher to remain in their own home.
  • Hospital travel expenses to visit a relative.
  • Travel costs to attend a Local Preachers’ training event.
  • Internet installation to enable study on the Worship: Leading & Preaching course.

Each application will be considered individually by the Fund Trustees on its merits.

A simple application form can be obtained from the Local Preachers’ Office at localpreachers@methodistchurch.org.uk.

All applications must be supported by someone within the circuit where the Local Preacher has their membership and who has knowledge of their circumstances. Normally this would be the Circuit Superintendent, Local Presbyter or Deacon.[BB3]

All applications will be treated with complete confidentiality.
