On the evening of 12 August 2026, the UK will experience a near-total solar eclipse. This extraordinary event provides a unique opportunity to marvel at creation and join in with the work of the Holy Spirit in making God’s love known through missional outreach. The information in this guide aims to help you make the most of the opportunity in innovative ways in your context.
This guide is not intended to be a prescriptive checklist, but a creative catalyst as you prayerfully plan your outreach event. While we are calling this opportunity the ‘Methodist Day of Outreach’, you will want to give your eclipse event its own name. This guide, alongside other resources, gives ideas and principles that can be used as a starting point, as well as some ready-to-use elements that might save you time and resources locally.
