The Connexional Team are often asked: “What laptop should I buy?”

To help make this easier, we’ve partnered with a trusted UK supplier, Scan Computers, to offer a simple way to get a suitable laptop at a fair price.

This service is open to anyone in the Methodist community — including ministers, church officers, and volunteers.

How the service works

  • Complete the short form explaining what you need.
  • Your request will be sent directly to Scan Computers.
  • Scan will recommend a suitable device and email you a quote within a couple of business days.
  • You can choose whether or not to go ahead.

If you accept the quote, you will buy directly from Scan and they will arrange delivery and any warranty-based support.

Important to know

  • This is not a centrally managed service
  • The purchase is between you and Scan Computers
  • The Methodist Connexional Team does not sell, supply, or support devices
  • You are free to buy from any supplier you prefer

This service is simply here to make things easier if you’d like some guidance.

What kind of laptop will I be offered?

We’ve worked with Scan to define a simple mid-range specification suitable for most people which can be offered as a small, lightweight laptop or a larger model with a larger screen.

Both models typically include:

  • A modern mid-range processor.
  • At least 16GB memory.
  • At least 512GB storage.
  • A good quality screen.

These devices are designed to work well for:

  • Email and/or Microsoft 365.
  • Microsoft Teams and Zoom.
  • Online Suite submissions.
  • General day-to-day use.
Can I request something different?

Yes.

Scan offer a wide range of devices and accessories and can:

  • Adjust specifications to suit your needs.
  • Provide quotes for specialist requirements.
  • Recommend accessories such as monitors, keyboards, or docking stations.

You can simply describe what you need in your request, and they will tailor the quote accordingly.

Will this be competitively priced?

Scan will aim to provide value for money, which may include:

  • Charity or not-for-profit pricing (where applicable).
  • Competitive market rates.
  • Advice on balancing price and quality.
Who am I buying the laptop from?

You are buying directly from Scan Computers.

They are the supplier and your contract is with them.

Who pays for the laptop?

You (or your church/circuit) pay Scan directly.

The Connexional Team does not purchase devices centrally.

Who supports the laptop?

Support, warranty and repairs are provided by Scan Computers (and their suppliers).

You would contact Scan directly for:

  • Faults or repairs.
  • Warranty queries.
  • Returns or replacements.
Does the Methodist Connexional Team provide support?

No.

The Connexional Team does not provide end-user device support for these purchases.

Do I have to use this service?

No.

You are free to purchase a laptop from any supplier.

This service is simply an optional way to get a recommended device without needing technical knowledge.

What if I don’t know what I need?

That’s exactly what this service is for.

You can simply describe:

  • How you plan to use the laptop.
  • Whether you prefer something light or a larger screen.

Scan will recommend something suitable based on that.

Can I order accessories as well?

Yes.

Scan can include accessories such as:

  • Monitors.
  • Keyboards and mice.
  • Carry cases or docking stations.

Just include any requirements in your request.

Can I ask for a specific brand or model?

Yes.

You can request a specific device or simply ask Scan to recommend something that meets your needs.
