Pension increases made on 1 September 2026 to Methodist Ministers’ Pension Scheme pensioners

We wanted to let MMPS pensioners know that many (but not all) will be receiving a greater pension increase than normal from 1 September 2026 (this being the annual pension review date). This is because the Trustees recently identified that pension increases in the past should have been calculated using inflation figures for the year to December rather than the year to January which have been applied for the last 30 years or so. For a significant proportion of pensioners, this has meant that their pension is less now than it should have been.

The impact of this past error on MMPS pensioners varies from case to case depending on a number of factors, the most significant one being when you retired. Every pensioner has been sent an explanatory letter by post with their particular details set out. However, many pensioners have not yet received their letter due to postal delays, and have contacted us to raise a query.
