In the coastal town of Girvan, where the sea meets long‑standing economic and social challenges, a new story of hope is unfolding. WAVE Community Hub and WAVE Community Church is a fresh expression of Methodist mission, rooted in prayer, listening, and a deep love for the people and place it serves.
Girvan is a town rich in resilience and community spirit, yet many families, children, and young people face isolation, limited opportunities, and a lack of welcoming spaces. For many, church feels unfamiliar or inaccessible. WAVE was born out of careful listening to these realities – through conversations with local residents, community groups, and partner organisations – and a shared sense that God is calling the Methodist Church to respond with creativity, compassion, and faith.
Housed in a renewed Methodist building, WAVE is both a community hub and an emerging Christian community. Its vision is simple but profound: to create a welcoming, Christ‑centred space where people of all ages and backgrounds can belong, explore faith at their own pace, and discover hope for today and tomorrow. Here, faith is shared in everyday language, relationships matter deeply, and creativity is celebrated as a gift from God.
WAVE is already becoming a place of connection. Doors are open for community activities, working partnerships with local charities and participation in regeneration projects are helping to build trust and friendship. Families are welcomed through creative children’s activities and events such as Bouncy Church Outdoors and Holiday Hubs, while gentle opportunities to explore faith are woven naturally into shared experiences. Through stories, conversation, prayer, and service, people are invited to encounter God’s love in ways that feel authentic and relevant to their lives.
At the heart of WAVE is a small, committed team of volunteers, leaders, and supporters, upheld in prayer by people across the Scotland District and the wider Connexion. A monthly prayer newsletter, Ripples of Prayer, invites others to journey alongside this new community, trusting that God is already at work in Girvan.
Looking ahead, WAVE hopes to grow into a gathered Christian community shaped by the Methodist Way of Life – worshipping, learning, caring, and serving together. As lives are touched and faith deepened, local people will be encouraged to step into leadership, ensuring that WAVE remains rooted in Girvan for the long term.
This is the beginning of something new: a re‑planted church, a revitalised building, and a living sign of God’s grace rising like a fresh wave on the Ayrshire coast.
