On Monday 21st July a group of Italian young people, aged 17-20, set foot in Britain. They had travelled from Centro Ecumene Church in Italy, part of the Italian Methodist Church (OPCEMI) and a close partner of the Global Relationships team at the Methodist Church in Britain.
Donning their trainers and rucksacks, they were ready to join with their British peers from the Square Methodist Church, Dunstable, on a journey that would take them from Dunstable on to Oxford, Bristol and London. Why? To follow in Wesley's footsteps, together.
"What I learned from travelling with a cross-cultural group is that every person has a different lifestyle, way of thinking, and set of values, which may be similar or completely different from mine. And that’s exactly what makes each person unique. I realised how important it is to respect others for who they are, and to feel respected in return. This experience has enriched me deeply, both personally and emotionally. I’m truly glad I had the chance to take part in it, and grateful to have met so many different people who, through their presence, made this journey even more special and unforgettable." Giulia (OPCEMI)
"I’ve learnt that shared faith, bridges cultural differences." Anosike (MCB)
"We discovered the history of Methodism, which is also our history." Francesca (OPCEMI)
"The thing that surprised me most this week was how a group can become so united in such a short time. I think these moments will be unforgettable" Massimo (OPCEMI)
"Being able to look around different museums and learning a lot more about John and Charles Wesley, opened a side of Methodism that I didn’t know I needed. The passion these men had is admirable and divine." Belle (MCB)
