The United Church in Papua New Guinea (UCPNG) is guided by its Pastoral Theme: “Fear God and Serve Him – Leaders for Change.”
This vision shapes its Key Mission Result Areas (KMRA), which outline the Church’s long-term priorities for transformation and structural renewal.
UCPNG affirms that leadership is a divine calling, with leaders expected to serve faithfully and impactfully. Through its institutions, the Church supports national development by equipping citizens with skills for employment.
As a steward of significant property assets inherited from the missionary era, UCPNG seeks to manage these resources sustainably, ensuring benefits are shared to advance its mission.
The Church also commits to social justice, responding compassionately to the needs of the poor and marginalised.
Finally, UCPNG is reimagining its regional pastoral services to meet the challenges of increased mobility and the presence of other churches in traditional UC areas.
UCPNG came into being as an independent church in 1996, when it was decided that the United Church covering both Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands, established in 1969 as an amalgamation of various denominations and missions, should no longer be maintained.
Thus, the United Church in Papua New Guinea came into being as an autonomous church on its own.
