Iglesia Metodista de Colombia (Methodist Church of Colombia)

The Iglesia Metodista de Colombia is small but resilient church serving diverse communities including Afro-Colombians, Indigenous peoples, migrants and those displaced by violence. Its current priorities are expressed through four key areas of work:

  • Women’s Ministry,
  • Child and Youth
  • Justice, Social Rights and a Dignified Life
  • Formation and Vocations.

The Methodist Church of Colombia (ICM) is deeply engaged in community service and social justice. The church operates community kitchens; a free community health centre serving 3,000 people; Responsible Banks offering microloans, and community development centres providing vocational training in areas like sewing and goldsmithing. It also undertakes human rights advocacy, especially in post-conflict areas.

Methodism in Colombia began formally in 1996, though earlier efforts were made in 1984 and 1986.

The church was established through collaboration between CIEMAL and Methodist leaders from Cuba, Mexico, and Brazil, with initial congregations in Bogotá and Calarcá.

The movement grew through grassroots efforts and theological education, eventually forming a unified national church. The ICM is now fully autonomous, legally constituted by Colombian citizens, and maintains strong ties with the global Methodist community.
