What is the Local Agents of Change programme?

The Local Agents of Change programme is for 8 to 17 year olds and will be supported by your local church. The programme provides an exciting opportunity for you to talk to your friends and then tell the Church about the things that matter to children and young people. This will help to shape the work of the Methodist Church across Britain, and the work of your local church.

Being a Local Agent of Change will give you the confidence and skills to respond and take action to what God wants you to do.

Anyone who takes part in the programme will receive a certificate at the end of the year as a thank you for your work.

What does a Local Agent of Change do?

  • Twice a year you will be sent a 'Use Your Voice' pack, via your Local Supporter. This is a resource with lots of activities and information to help you find out what children and young people think about specific subjects.
  • With the help of your adult Local Supporter, you will:
    • decide how you want to run the activities and listen to your friends
    • remember what your friends have told you
    • feed this back to your local church (this can be done in lots of creative ways).
  • Twice a year we will hold an online meeting with other Local Agents of Change from across Britain. You will be invited to attend this meeting to tell our Youth Reps and Youth President what you have been doing and hearing locally.

What makes a good Local Agent of Change?

We are looking for people who are…

  • good at listening to other people, even when they have a different viewpoint
  • passionate about helping the Church to hear what children and young people think
  • excited about meeting with other children and young people involved in the Church
  • wanting to speak out and share their views and those of others
  • open to exploring the Christian faith.

How do you take part in the programme?

To be a Local Agent of Change you need an adult from the church to be your Local Supporter. If you want to be involved, speak to your Minister or leader and tell them you want to be a part of this programme. They will help you to find a Local Supporter, who will then sign-up to the programme.
