So those who welcomed his message were baptized, and that day about three thousand persons were added. They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.
(Acts 2:41–42)From our beginning, the Church has been called to grow – rooted in God and reaching outwards with God. This growth takes diverse forms:
- Spiritual growth through deepening discipleship.
- Missional growth through engaging with local communities in justice and evangelism.
- Numerical growth as people discover God’s love and respond by following Jesus into spiritual exploration and the commitments of baptism, confirmation and membership.
Church growth always begins with attentiveness to God – discerning where God is already at work and joining in. Sometimes this feels natural and energising; at other times it feels more challenging and we need some support.
