Newcastle - Recovery Church

Newcastle Upon Tyne District - Connexional Recovery Church Network

Background The Newcastle-upon-Tyne District initiated a peer-led recovery community during the COVID-19 pandemic. This community, now known as Recovery Church, has grown to include in-person and online groups in Newcastle and Glasgow, with potential for further expansion.

Purpose Recovery Church aims to provide a safe and supportive space for individuals struggling with addiction. It offers a unique blend of Christian fellowship, recovery support, and community engagement. The initiative seeks to challenge stigma, marginalization, and the broader societal issues surrounding addiction. The new Recovery Church Hub will enable wider work to be undertaken including discipleship groups, 12 Step Bible Study, pastoral care and connecting with people in recovery and related organisations.

Funding The proposal outlines a plan to fund a new Recovery Church Hub in the centre of Newcastle for the next 5 years next to Brunswick Methodist Church. The creation of a Hub allows for the growth of small group and discipleship work and a new venue for the weekly recovery Drop In. It also allows for a permanent City Centre presence to further develop relationships with other recovery organisations and services.

By implementing this strategy and securing adequate funding, Recovery Church aims to make a significant impact on the lives of individuals struggling with addiction, offering them hope, healing, and a sense of belonging within the Christian community.
