Campaigning against increasing plastic pollution has been in the news a lot recently. Here are a few websites to get you started finding out more about the problem and ways in which we can cut down on plastic use:
- The Plastic Pollution Coalition offers a handy, easy to read page that outlines the main reasons why we need to cut down on plastic use. It also has a range of 'Plastic free guides' for different audiences and contexts.
- Plastic Oceans aims to instigate change through primarily raising awareness of the issue. The resources page offers an education and discussion guide to use alongside the documentary, A Plastic Ocean, which is available to stream through a number of channels.
- Greenpeace UK has, for a long time, been a leading campaigner on environmental issues. The website includes help to find out how your supermarket ranks in the plastic league table, and tips on reducing plastic use in your own life.
With the iWill Campaign, which exists to encourage youth participation and social action across a number of sectors, young people can sign-up to be iWill Champions, campaigning on environmental issues.
The Youth Nature Network exists to connect, support and inspire young people across the UK with an interest in nature and conservation, and provide a voice for the youth conservation movement.
The John Muir Trust is a conservation organisation that is dedicated to the experience, protection and repair of wild places. The website features some short films about nature, including a series of videos produced by young people themselves.
Global Action Plan, the people behind the Clean Air Day (UK's largest air pollution campaign) also offers a wealth of resources for youth and schools work via the Transform Our World site.
