Social justice and community engagement
The 2019 3Generate Manifesto asks the Methodist Church to focus on a number of areas of social justice and community engagement
Looking after the environment
The 2019 3Generate Manifesto asks the Methodist Church to look after the environment through recycling, using less plastic and picking up litter. Here are a few websites to get you started...
- Download the Methodist Hope in God's Future report.
- Visit the Environment page of the Joint Public Issues Team (represents the Baptist Union, The Church of Scotland, the Methodist Church and the United Reformed Church, helping these denominations work together for peace and justice).
- Check out the free survey and resources from Eco Church, designed to equip your church to express your care for God's world - both as a collective church and as individuals making proactive lifestyle choices. Then visit the website of parent organisation A Rocha UK to explore more creative ways of caring for God's world.
- A Rocha has also produced Planetwise: Bible Studies, which include leader’s notes, handouts, quizzes and other materials.
- Tenants of the King is a Bible-based, Jesus-centred resource from Operation Noah, this four-part study series can help churches consider what the Bible has to say about today’s climate crisis.
- The Youth Nature Network exists to connect, support and inspire young people across the UK with an interest in nature and conservation, and provide a voice for the youth conservation movement.
- With the iWill Campaign, which exists to encourage youth participation and social action across a number of sectors, young people can sign-up to be iWill Champions, campaigning on environmental issues.
Resources to support interfaith work
The 2019 3Generate Manifesto asks the Methodist Church to get to know and learn about more people in our local communities so that we build relationships, break down barriers and stop prejudice.
We are really lucky that the organisation The Feast has produced the following resources for 3Generate, which are available to download:
Taking action on homelessness
The 2019 3Generate Manifesto asks the Methodist Church to take action on homelessness in local areas. Here are a few websites to get you started...
- The Joint Public Issues Team represents the Baptist Union, The Church of Scotland, the Methodist Church and the United Reformed Church, helping these denominations work together for peace and justice. On the housing page of its website you can download 'A place to call home?', a set of six Bible studies for small group discussion on a range of issues around housing. Also available is 'More than bricks and mortar', a background paper with four 'think-pieces' to help Christians consider how they should respond to the current housing crisis.
- Crisis exists to help people to leave homelessness behind for good. Its Homelessness knowledge hub provides information about homelessness trends and the causes of homelessness and its impact.
- Shelter helps people struggling with bad housing, as well as homelessness. Its website has a wealth of schools resources (you may have to register to use some of them).
